If you have been using a lotion that contains mineral oil (baby oils, petroleum based products) you have actually not helped your skin at all. None of us need lotion unless our skin is drying or we're in the sun.
Not to many people are blessed with wonderful skin that needs no nourishment.
(Mineral oils harden skin instead of adding moisture).
So perhaps some of your ? on marketing is a good point.

Lots of people (like myself) suffer dry skin especially in the winter months and need help from a bottle.

Also it's wise to always use an spf on the face or a good regime to hydrate your skin (exposed)

Otherwise if your skin seems fine there is no reason to use cream - it will help with aging though *but not a mineral oil based cream*.

It would help make skin softer and smoother with body lotions given the harsh weather condition we all live-in.

I would say we need body lotion to replenish the lost moisture in our skin. When we take a bath, our skin's natural moisture are washed out by water. Over-exposure to sun's rays also causes our skin to dry out that's why some lotions come with SPF. Especially now that the ozone layer is deteriorating, we really need some shield from UV rays.

yes, you absolutely need it. it helps to replenish the moisture your skin loses after showering or through the sun.

what was discovered was that it doesn't matter what kind of lotion/cream you use. cheap vs. expensive didn't make a difference. . just as long as you used it, it helped equally.

I think that you would eventually get dry. If it's working for you why stop?
